Environmental Monitoring


An important aspect of Turnkey Instruments' work is our range of environmental monitors. These are primarily for measuring levels of dust and other airborne particulates, though also record ambient temperature and relative humidity, and wind speed and direction using an attachable anemometer. The Topas and Osiris's external inputs in principle allow anything to be recorded along with dust measurements, given an appropriate detector. Commonly, these can be gas sensors, rainfall gauges, traffic counters, and sound meters such as the iDB Class 2 Noise Monitor we produce for this purpose. Additionally, we have stand-alone vibration & noise monitors in the Vibrosound Analyser CM3, iVIBE Vibration & Noise Monitor, and iDB Class 1 sound monitor.

The dust monitors use a light scattering technique to measure different dust particle sizes simultaneously, recording TSP, PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 fractions. Both the Topas and Osiris monitors have been awarded the Environment Agency's MCERTS certification, which ensures reliable and accurate recording of PM10 data. Dust instruments can be operated directly, or via computer using the AirQ software or AirQWeb site. AirQ communicates with instruments connected locally, by radio modem, GSM phone link or internet while AirQWeb works similarly as a web interface for internet enabled instruments. Both allow collection, search and presentation of data in graphs, tables & reports – along with management of settings and SMS & email alerts for dust level exceedences. AlarmBox allows autonomous control of audio-visual alarms & dust suppression equipment while monitoring with the dust monitors.
