Technical Manager
Turnkey is a 30+ year established business that designs, manufactures, and sells a variety of scientific and industrial instruments. All our products have been designed and developed in-house.
To support our existing products, and help to create new ones, we have created the new role of Technical Manager.
Who are you? A multidisciplinary, dexterous polymath. Probably a postdoc physicist or electronic engineer. You are good at making things and can also lead a small design and support team. You must have the confidence to be able to work in the fields of sound and vibration measurement, aerosol science, optics, gas detection, and vehicle dynamics. You will be good at, or at least have knowledge of, digital and analogue circuit design, PCB layout, Solid Edge CAD, 3D printing, various microprocessors and development systems, assembler C, C++, MicroPython, etc., etc.
Most of your time will be spent “hands-on” designing but you must also be able to provide support and leadership to a small technical team.
The position is initially for a 1-year contract. You will report directly to the Managing Director.

Software Development Engineer
Turnkey is a 30+ year established business that designs, manufactures, and sells a variety of scientific and industrial instruments. All our products have been designed and developed in-house.
We are looking for a software development engineer with at least 2 years of commercial experience in web & mobile application development to work within a small, cross-functional team. The role will be focused on web development (Java, Spring boot, RestAPIs, JavaScript) and cross platform mobile application development.
We are based in Gadbrook Park, Northwich. We offer a competitive salary dependent on experience, 25 days’ holiday per annum (plus bank holidays) and flexible working hours.
Job responsibilities:
- You will be required to maintain/improve the existing web applications and develop new services to support the system.
- Cross-platform (Android + iOS) mobile application development (Flutter or React Native or Ionic etc.)
Required skills:
- A strong understanding of software development best practices.
- A solid knowledge of OOP language (preferably Java).
- Knowledge of Java micro-service frameworks, such as Spring Boot.
- Experience designing and building REST APIs.
- Demonstrable knowledge of relational database (MySQL).
- Knowledge of other programming languages (C++, JavaScript, etc.)
- Expertise in building both internal and consumer-facing APIs.
- Knowledge of AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, Elastic Beanstalk, etc.)
- Knowledge of cross-platform mobile application development.
- Arduino IDE, Android Studio, Git, GitHub.

Electronics Engineer
Turnkey is a 30+ year established business that designs, manufactures, and sells a variety of scientific and industrial instruments. All our products have been designed and developed in-house and are sold throughout the world.
To support our existing products, and help to create new ones, we require an Electronics Engineer.
Confident and self-starting, you are an original thinker. You must be able to produce new and innovative designs, on-time and on-budget, from a minimal design brief. Experience in analogue and digital electronics is essential. You will be knowledgeable about PCB layout CAD and be good at making things.
You will be able to program microprocessors and will be familiar with Microchip MPLAB and Arduino IDE development systems and have some knowledge of PIC24 and ESP32 microprocessors and IoT.
Some experience of assembler, C, C++ and MicroPython languages would be useful, as would some knowledge of WiFi and Bluetooth.
We operate an ISO 9000 quality scheme.
Most of your time will be spent “hands-on” designing but you must also be able to provide electronics support to a small technical team.
The position is initially for a 1-year contract (subject to a satisfactory probationary period).
